A GRANDMOTHER, A GRANDFATHER, A COMMUNITY..."

THE SACRED HEART SOCIETY FOR VOCATIONS

The Church has been around for over 2000 years and the one thing that has proven to work time and again is the power of prayer. The Sacred Heart of Jesus was a source of prayer from the earliest moments of the Church. Prayerfully contemplated and discussed by the early Fathers of the Church, a very common devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus developed throughout history. Our Cathedral Basilica in Newark bears the same name, where men are ordained priests for the Archdiocese each May.

It is in this spirit that we introduce to you The Sacred Heart Society for Vocations, a ministry of the Office of Priestly Vocations in the Archdiocese of Newark. In order to become a member, we ask that you make a pledge to assist us in this ministry by praying for vocations on a regular basis. There is also the option to utilize your gifts and talents to organize a local group to foster vocations at your parish or school.

PRAY WITH US

You can pledge to pray the Rosary, offer Mass intentions, fast, or spend time before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

Of course, you are not limited to these choices—you may practice another devotion that you would like to offer as an intercession for vocations within the Archdiocese of Newark.

ORGANIZE WITH US

In addition to your prayer pledge, you may feel called to organize a Vocations Ministry within your parish or school.

We are happy to provide information on how to do this. It could be as simple as meeting on a regular basis to pray for vocations as a community after daily Mass. Or, perhaps you wish to form a discernment group at your school. We can help you with that, too!
